A Lago Vista man died Dec. 30 after his vehicle swerved into oncoming traffic and crashed into a pick-up truck on FM 1431.
Alan Daughetee, 54, was flown to University Medical Center Brackenridge by StarFlight but died before reaching the hospital.
Daughetee was driving a 1998 Jaguar along FM 1431 at a high speed when he swerved into oncoming traffic, colliding with a 2005 Ford truck. According to Sgt. Daniel Reid of the Lago Vista Police Department, the occupant of the truck, Larry Eden of Jonestown, was taken to Brackenridge Hospital by an ambulance with non-life threatening injuries.
Reid said witnesses put Daughetee’s speed at around 75 or 80 miles per hour. The stretch of road where the accident occurred has a posted speed limit of 55 mph.
“We do know that he was definitely traveling faster than the posted speed limit, but at this point we do not know an approximate speed,” Reid said.
Traffic was blocked by the accident for several hours, eventually being diverted to Destination Boulevard and through the Hollows subdivision to Lohman Ford Road.
Lago Vista resident Tom Work was caught in the aftermath of the collision.
“When I got there, there was just a line of cars a mile long. We weren’t going anywhere, there were flares all over the place and we just sat there,” he said.
When traffic was later directed to take the detour, Work said he saw the mangled Jaguar and knew there must have been a fatality.
“There was just nothing left of the car,” he said. “It was totally demolished.”

He was a friend and I’m sad to see him pass. Knowing him several years I can’t understand seeing him rush like this. A couple of years past since he had open heart surgeory. I’ve known him to be very laid back since then. Very unfortuneate… He will be missed.
