The third annual Battle of the Bluebonnets, hosted by Leander Independent School District librarians, will offer yet another fun way to celebrate student’s efforts to read and learn.
“The Bluebonnet Program encourages students to read from a list of 20 books selected by a committee of librarians from the Texas Library Association,” said Anne Dilworth, librarian at Parkside Elementary School.
Students who read five or more books are eligible to vote for their favorite. Five students are selected to represent their school in the Battle of the Bluebonnets. The game features LISD Superintendent Bret Champion asking students questions about the books they have read.
This year, LISD librarians invited librarians from Round Rock ISD to join in the Battle of the Bluebonnets.
“This is just one way we chose to celebrate the students who read and participate in the Bluebonnet program,” Dilworth said.  “There is no one winner, and all participants get medals for just being there. Everyone has a great time.”
Students from some 30 Leander and Round Rock elementary schools will gather at Cox Elementary School, 1001 Brushy Creek Rd., in Cedar Park at 4 p.m. Tuesday.
