MARBLE FALLS—The Lago Vista Viking and Lady Viking track teams had a great start to its new season with a third place overall finish for the boys at the Marble Falls track meet Saturday.

The Lago Vista track teams fought nasty weather in the morning and much larger schools in the competition. However, the Viking team set four school records while the Lady Vikings fared nearly as well with setting two school records.
The Marble Falls meet was a relays-only meet, meaning no individual races. Only relays and the field events took the combined distances or heights of the top three athletes.
In field events, Jemarcus Johnson took third and a new school record in the triple jump (42’ 8”). With the combined efforts of Justin Flowers and Dylan Haines, the team placed first overall.
In the long jump, Johnson took first overall (19’ 11.5”), Flowers placed fourth (18’ 7.25”) and with the help of Sam Rubbelke took first as a team. Landyn Lesage was in a three-way tie for fourth place in pole vault (11’ 6”) and the team took second place overall with the combined jumps of Zach Billington and Ryan Donahue. Freshman Taylor Weaver placed fifth in the high jump (5’ 4”). On the Lady Viking side, Kalie Gillham took third in the long jump (15’ 0.5”) and fifth in the triple jump (31’ 8”).
The Vikings found even more success in the running events. The 4×100 relay team of Carter Baker, Cody Hegedus, Joey Donahue and Austin Terry took second with a time of 45.1. The 4×200 team of Johnson, Terry, Carter Baker and Conner Baker took placed first overall with a time of 1:33.3. The Lago Vista B team of Shyheim Brumsy, Preston White, Justin Flowers and Conner Guillaume took fifth with a time of 1:40. The 4×400 relay team of Baker, Baker, Johnson and Dakota Haines placed fourth with a time of 3:41.5.
The sprint medley team of Johnson, Terry, Haines and Bryan Jacobs placed second and set a new school record of 3:48.3. The distance medley team of Jacobs, Donahue, Chris Moseley and Michael Arvizu set a new school record with 12:05 to take sixth place. The 4×110 hurdle relay team of Travis Hurosky, Michael Gutierrez, Dylan Haines and Arvizu set a new school record with 1:24.5 to take sixth place.
The Lady Vikings 4×400 relay team of Alexa Billington, Allison Bodin, Courtney Sukup and Kalie Gillham placed fourth with a time of 4:31.3. The sprint medley relay team of Grisel Cantera, Cheyenne Ramon, Bailey Donley and Erin Strickler set a new school record of 5:11.3. The distance medley relay team of Kelsey Abbot, Dione Cantera, Grisel Cantera and Nicki Gloris set a school record with a time of 14:48.
The Vikings’ next meet will be March 5 in Rockdale.
