Joan Neely, a local vocalist, and four professional friends will provide a program of jazz at the Lago Vista Women’s Club monthly luncheon Tuesday at the K-Oaks Clubhouse.
Neely, inspired by great singers of the ’50s like Anita O’Day, June Christy, Julie London and the incomparable Ella Fitzgerald, has developed her vocal talent through the Parcher School of Arts here in Lago Vista.
Marc Witmer on piano has orchestrated all the arrangements that will be performed. “His true joy is the creative process and discovering a new way to speak a new song or a new arrangement into existence,” explained Neely.
Other musicians on the program include Tom Jeanett on saxophone, Amy Polk on drums and Tom Winsted on bass guitar.
Social hour begins at 10:45 a.m., and the lunch will be served at 11:30 a.m. The lunch costs $13.
The scholarship selection process is in full swing. It started with the Women’s Club entertaining about 40 Lago Vista High School junior and senior women at the annual scholarship luncheon Feb. 11. After all applications are received, a committee will select finalists based on academic achievement, community service, a written essay and formal interview. Winners will be introduced at the May luncheon meeting when all other philanthropic gifts are presented.
