The Viking and Lady Viking track squad traveled to Rockdale Friday and came home with plenty of hardware and a few new school records.
Freshman Kelsey Abbott started off the evening by demolishing the 3,200-meter record by nearly 30 seconds and outpaced the nearest competitor by more than 15 seconds. Other Vikings soon joined in as Jemarcus Johnson leaped into the record books again with a long jump of 21 feet, 5.5 inches.
Landyn Lesage vaulted 13’ 6” to capture the record and a second-place finish. Bryan Jacobs ran the fastest 800 meters in school history and captured second placed with a time of 2:04.5.
The Viking boys placed second overall in the meet with 116 points right behind 3A Rockdale and beating out district foes Salado and Lexington. The Lady Vikings scored 52 points and placed fourth overall behind 3A schools Cameron and Rockdale and district rival Salado.
The Vikings travel to Salado today with the field events starting at 3:30 p.m. and running will follow at 5 p.m.
