All-around strong play put the Lago Vista High School boys’ golf team in first place at the Salado Invitational Monday at Mill Creek Golf Course.
Coach Bryan Rogers said even though his team saw higher scores than he wanted, they were low enough to compete with district opponents.
“The tournament was a good indication as to how our team will fare in the district meet because most of our district opponents were present,” he said.
Salado finished only three strokes behind Lago’s 369 team score to take second place.
Austin Shockey once again led the Vikings with an 86 round. Fellow juniors Nathan Holtman, Ryan Anderson and Justin Thurmond also hit low scores with 93, 98 and 92, respectively.
The win comes at a fortuitous time as Lago Vista will play its first round in the District 25-2A tournament against many of the same opponents Wednesday at the Lago Vista Golf Course. The second round of district play will be at the Mill Creek Golf Course April 15.
