Lago Vista Elementary School needs your vote. The school entered a contest to win $20,000 worth of technology, and need people to visit its website and vote on its video.
Intermediate principal Beth Mohler wrote and directed the video.
“I wrote a script basically outlining what we want to do with technology in Suessian rhyme,” she said. The inspiration came from combining the school’s theme for next year, “Oh the Places We Will Go,” with the contest’s theme to describe how the school will use Dell Technology.
Because they could not use any children under 13 years old, the cast consisted solely of LVES staff members—including a cameo appearance by primary principal Heather Stoner as Thing 2.
“(Mohler) gets all the credit,” Stoner said. “She wrote the wonderful lyrics and all I could contribute was wearing a blue wig.”
Mohler said they spent a couple of days producing the video, and filmed it in a single afternoon. She admitted they could have made a better quality video if they had more time, but she wanted to get the video up as soon as she could in order to earn as many votes as possible before the July 14 deadline.
If LVES is one of the top 10 schools at the end of the first voting period, it faces another vote to take the grand prize—$20,000 worth of technology from Dell.
People can vote once per day per e-mail address registered. There is a link to the video on the LVES website.
Mohler said she hopes to use the money to buy a cart of laptop computers, enough for one classroom.
“That really puts learning at the kids’ fingertips,” she said. “All of the things we have them do without technology can be done so much better, with much more efficiency and with a better product with technology.”
