‘Hats off to the chamber’
I drove through Cody Park early Sunday morning and it was as if no one had even been there. I knew differently because I went down there on Saturday and saw nothing but a orderly but enthusiastic crowd.
Earlier in the day I had helped a Lions Club function in front of Super S and I have never seen the parking lot as full (except on the opening weekend). Looking inside the store, all checkout stands were manned and active. Later on I talked to the owners of the North Shore Liquor store. They were swamped and were purchasing mixes from Super S because the demand was larger than their original inventory.
That’s what these types of weekends are supposed to generate. If we ever get a chance to host a activity like this again, I hope our attitudes and thinking will change to a more progressive, welcoming attitude.
Hats off to the chamber of commerce, the LVPOA and the city of Lago Vista for cooperating together. Between this last weekend and the recent 25th birthday bash held in front of City Hall, we just might become a progressive community.

Thank the LVPOA board
For those that read my letter on June 3, you know that I was concerned about Cody Park’s participation in AquaPalooza/LagoPalooza. And, as it turned out, many others were concerned about this same event.
My husband and I walked to Cody Park Saturday afternoon in time to see one person being questioned by the police. That person was subsequently escorted out of the park in a quiet, orderly manner.
The Heavy Duty Trash Disposal Unit that was brought in for this specific event also smelled quite “ripe” as we walked past it. Of course, this was the last day of the event.
And, while I enjoy music, I’ll admit what I could hear coming across the lake sounded more like canned croaning. However, that said, I think because of the many that did question the event, all the sponsors and those that attended did an extra good job with the clean up and keeping the event safe and fun for all that participated.
For those that wonder why the property owners’ association owns so much property, it’s because there are many people that enjoy having nice amenities that are affordable in their community. Also, much of the property was donated to the POA at various times. Our POA fees are much lower than many that have far fewer amenities in their respective communities. I, for one, do appreciate this.
Separately from this, the city has bought some properties that benefit us as a community, and that includes the golf courses. Thus, these courses can be run as non-profit organizations, and makes the sport affordable for retirees as well as the youth in the community. It also keeps the area beautiful and provides a perfect solution for the effluent water in our town.
We should be thanking all those that serve on both the POA board and those that are involved with the City Council here. These people are conscientious members of our community that donate their time and effort on our behalf as a community. My hat is off to each of them for a job well done.

LVPOA board member
tells his side of the story
As a member of the Lago Vista Property Owners’ Association Board of Directors, I feel there is information being circulated which needs clarification. This is a personal response. It doesn’t reflect the opinions of other board members.
In the last LOG, there was a letter stating the writer wanted to join the chamber of commerce but couldn’t because of the indemnity clause in the contract for use of LVPOA facilities because it would expose members to personal ruin. It is not the intention of the clause to do any more than assure the required liability insurance was in place.
The goal of the POA is to have insurance in effect that is required by our insurance carrier. It is as simple as that. There is no attempt to be underhanded or cause anyone to do anything except what is prudent. All of this is your POA looking after your interests as prudently as possible. To hang the LVPOA board out to dry is mean spirited. Please get the facts before sounding off.
To folks who felt the POA should offer a refund for the time they were prevented private use of Cody Park: The park was open for 10 hours. If you take the annual fee of $125 and divide that by 12 parks and facilities, further divide by 364 days (all facilities are closed on Christmas) then the 10 hours the park was open, the refund will be $0.012. To those who wish to have a refund, please send a SASE with a paid 2010 bill copy to me c/o the POA. I will personally refund the value of lost time. Since it is not possible to refund part of a penny, you will profit by $0.008.
To the POA staff and chamber, you all did an outstanding job and clean up. Those who worked the event were outstanding residents of Lago Vista. Thank you.
I wish those who choose to be mean spirited take Bud Oglesby’s advice: move. Lago Vista would be a better place without the hate as was thrown at one of the most dedicated past POA board members. Ginger Halstead gives tirelessly to Lago Vista, more than most know. She did not need the hate shown to her at the last LVPOA board meeting. It was also shocking to see that same meanness in the LOG over the past few weeks.

‘We need a democracy
in charge’
The LVPOA board is going to discuss commercial use of our parks. It’s the city’s fault they have to do this. Where are these people coming from? Why do we need public facilities? I was under the impression that our parks are for the property owners of Lago Vista, not the general public.
If this board gets their way, I think all the property owners should not pay their 2011 dues. Let the commercialization plan take care all the finances. Last but not least, it’s about time we get rid of the monarchy that is the LVPOA board, and dethrone the king. We need a democracy back in charge.
